Challenges of dating as a single parent

I am a single mother (and only parent) to an 11-year-old boy and we live in a suburb of Boston. On my blog I talk about my life (sometimes in the dating scene), my son, reviews, and share things that I love all while trying to find the humor in it.I have a wonderfully supportive family; without them I would probably be lost.

When Lindsay Lohan and Lindsay Lohan teamed up to drag Meredith’s air mattress into the lake in , which saw Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda trying to combine two families with eight and ten children respectively, which the children vehemently resist.

When I’ve rewatched these as an adult, I find myself sympathizing with the love-struck parents a whole lot more.

That’s a disappointment on both sides.” —Brendon, 36, Providence, RIWhat makes dating with kids more difficult?

“My experience has been that as a single dad, one of the most difficult issues is my lack of flexibility.

Like I have to really like a woman in order to be proactive enough to get a sitter and go through that whole thing.

So the upshot is, I just don't date as often as I used to because my motivation has to be stronger to even get to that level.” —Adam, 34, Atlanta, GA“First, there are practical and time management challenges.

A lot of women I've dated seem to value spontaneity and that's just not possible for me.

Also, I don't get child support, so there's a strong financial consideration.

A big challenge is after you've been dating someone for a while if it doesn't work out and your child is attached, it can be very difficult.

Kids are resilient though, and as long as you (the parent) put on a brave face, your child will too.

Dating can be scary and a challenge, but have fun with it.
